Luxury Glamping in Ecuador’s Andes: A Unique Escape at Sayaro Glamping
Glamping in Ecuador is a growing trend, and Sayaro Glamping is a standout experience nestled in a remote valley of the Ecuadorian Andes. Last month, Malé from Original Ecuador explored this hidden gem, discovering its mix of comfort, sustainability, and connection to nature.
Getting There
Sayaro is located 3 hours northeast of Quito. After a 2.5-hour drive on paved roads to the village of Atahualpa, a 30-minute 4x4 ride brings you to the secluded valley where Sayaro is hidden away.
On Arrival
Upon arrival, you'll find yourself in a quiet, scenic hollow surrounded by mountains and cloud forest at an altitude of 2220m - 2400m. Hosts Felipe and Lorena, the owners, greet you warmly. They manage the property, which includes a permaculture farm, ducks, chickens, guinea pigs, and a dairy cow producing milk for their own Greek yogurt production and fresh cheese. There’s also a lagoon for trout farming and a small distillery for essential oils.
The Tent
Sayaro offers just one luxury safari tent, ensuring personalized service. The tent is equipped with a large, comfortable bed, wood burner, balcony, and a coffee/tea station. A private bathroom is accessible via a short, covered path and provides all the comforts you’d expect from high-end accommodations.
Meals
Meals are prepared with organic, seasonal ingredients from the farm, and served in an al fresco dining area. The menu can be adjusted to accommodate dietary needs. Fresh, healthy, and delicious food is a highlight of the experience.
Climate
The high montane cloud forest climate brings warm, sunny mornings and cooler, wetter afternoons, so be prepared for varied weather.
Activities
Relaxation is the primary activity at Sayaro, making it an ideal retreat at the end of a busy Ecuador trip. You can also explore short trails around the property, including one leading to a small thermal spring. Guests are welcome to participate in farm activities, such as egg collecting, milking cows, and harvesting vegetables.
Farm Shop
Sayaro's farm shop offers a selection of their homemade Greek yogurt, essential oils, and locally crafted alpaca wool products.
Final Thoughts
Sayaro Glamping offers a serene retreat where nature and luxury coexist. The journey in may be bumpy, but it’s worth it for the peaceful experience awaiting you. What impressed Malé most was the project's dedication to permaculture and environmental conservation, creating a unique and meaningful stay for those seeking to disconnect in comfort.
