Itinerary

This morning we begin in Independence Square (Plaza Grande) where we discover the cathedral and government palace with its colorful guards. Walking a short distance, we come to the impressive La Compania de Jesus Church, with its intricate stone carved façade and incredible gold-leafed interiors.

We then continue on to the nearby San Francisco Plaza and church, an area of the old town with an authentic indigenous ambience.

Next it is time to experience Quito from above, taking in the amazing panoramic views of the city. We can drive up the hill to the top of El Panecillo, from here the statue of the Virgin of Quito overlooks the historical center.

Alternatively, for the more adventurous, we can climb the vertigo-challenging towers of the neo-Gothic Basilica with its unique gargoyles depicting native animals of Ecuador. Both visits offer similar 360-degree views, you can decide on the day with your guide which is the best option for you.

Lunch can be enjoyed in a local café (not included)

Later we travel north to the Mitad del Mundo. This is where the equator line crosses Ecuador – have your photo taken with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one foot in the southern hemisphere!
