Latest Update on Covid-19 in Ecuador
The following information gives an overview of the current measures which are in place in Ecuador to help contain the spread of Covid-19 as of 8th June 2020:
1. The state of emergency has been extended and will currently come to an end on 16th June 2020
2. Use of face masks is mandatory in all public places.
3. Inter-provincial travel by bus and by private vehicle is still prohibited.
4. A traffic light system, with red, amber and green levels, has been implemented to facilitate the opening up of different regions of the country.
5. Guayaquil, Quito and Galapagos are currently classed as “amber” level
Amber level restrictions are as follows:
1. A daily curfew which applies from 21h00 to 05h00
2. Non-essential shops and restaurants are allowed to open and operate to 30% of total capacity
3. Urban public transport is allowed to run, with buses operating up to 50% of total capacity.
4. Private vehicles are allowed to circulate every other day, Monday to Saturday, depending on their number plate. No private vehicle circulation is permitted on Sundays.
International Arrivals
1. On 1st June 2020 international borders were re-opened and international flights resumed with limited operations. American Airlines and United among others are currently operating limited flights.
2. Passengers must sign a declaration form with their itinerary and local contact details on arrival.
3. Arriving passengers must present a negative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test for Covid-19, taken in the last 7 days or agree to take a test on arrival at the airport in Ecuador.
4. All passengers must undertake 14 days of mandatory self-isolation at their own expense in designated hotels or private accommodation on arrival.
Galapagos National Park
The vice president announced via Twitter that the government is working with local authorities towards re-opening Galapagos as a tourist destination from 1st July 2020. No further information is known at the moment.
