Itinerary

This morning we begin in Independence Square (Plaza Grande) where we can discover Quito’s cathedral and government palace with its colorful purple guards.

In the nearby chocolate museum we can learn all about the cacao fruit and how its beans are processed into delicious chocolate. Taste chocolate from different regions of Ecuador, the variety in the flavors will definitely surprise you!

Walking a short distance, we come to the impressive La Compañia de Jesus Church. Outside the stone front is intricately carved, inside the walls shine with gold.

Next it is time to experience Quito from above, taking in the amazing panoramic views of the city. We can drive up the hill to the top of El Panecillo, from here the statue of the Virgin of Quito overlooks the historical center. There is plenty of room for the kids to run around and stretch their legs. Alternatively, for the more adventurous, climb the vertigo-challenging towers of the neo-Gothic Basilica with its unique gargoyles depicting native animals of Ecuador – can you spot the Galapagos Tortoise? Both visits offer similar 360-degree views, you can decide on the day with your guide which is the best option for you.

Lunch can be enjoyed in a local café (not included)

In the afternoon we continue onto the Mitad del Mundo. This is where the equator line crosses Ecuador – have your photo taken with one foot in the northern hemisphere and one foot in the southern hemisphere! At the Inti Ñan Museum, take part in some of the quirky trick experiments on offer – watch how the water runs in different directions in the northern and southern hemisphere and balance an egg on a pin head.
