A Day on the Farm at Hacienda Porvenir: Adventure, Fun, and Relaxation

The Original Ecuador team recently spent a fun-filled day at Hacienda Porvenir, enjoying the perfect mix of nature, adventure, and relaxation in the breathtaking Cotopaxi region of Ecuador.

A Scenic Escape from Quito

Just 1.5 hours from Quito, Hacienda Porvenir is nestled among iconic volcanoes like Pasochoa, Sincholagua, Rumiñahui, and Cotopaxi.

Breathtaking views stretch in every direction, showcasing the beauty of the surrounding volcanoes.

A Warm Welcome with Local Treats

On arrival guests are greeted with:

- Empanadas de queso (cheese turnovers) served with sugar or hot sauce.

- Canelazo, a spiced fruit drink served hot, with or without the local “firewater” alcohol.

Morning Adventures: Choose Your Path

1. Horseback Riding with Volcano Views

Nena and Male geared up with chaps and ponchos for a two-hour horseback ride.

The trail, suitable for beginners, led them through the foothills of Rumiñahui Volcano, offering incredible vistas. They were lucky enough to see 3 Andean Condors

2. E-Biking Through Native Forests

Emma and Jorge hopped on e-bikes to explore single-track trails through a lush Polylepis forest.

This forest is part of Hacienda Porvenir’s reforestation project, showcasing native species and thriving biodiversity.

3. Hiking to Hidden Gems

Vale set off on a self-guided hike, discovering:

A lookout point with views of the Cotopaxi Volcano.

A serene local waterfall, perfect for quiet reflection.

Midday Fun: Lasso Practice and Llama Encounters

Back at the hacienda, the group gathered for:

- Lasso Class: Despite our enthusiasm, we weren’t exactly roping experts—but the laughs were worth it!

- Llama Feeding: Spending time with the adorable llamas, feeding them carrots, was a definite highlight.

A Farm-to-Table Feast

Lunch was a culinary delight in the hacienda’s dining area.

- Favourite dish: Grass-fed organic steak with a luscious blackberry sauce.

- Dessert adventure: Four desserts, five spoons, and no regrets—our host Jorge didn’t stand a chance!

Exploring the Hacienda’s Upgraded Suites

After lunch, we toured the newly renovated suites featuring:

- Modern bathrooms with elegant, light-filled designs.

- Colourful Andean weavings adding warmth and charm.

- Personal ponchos in each room for guest use.

Relaxing at the Spa

The spa was the perfect way to wind down:

- Facilities included a steam room and three pools (polar, hot tub, and jacuzzi).

- A much-needed treat after the morning’s adventures.

An Alternative Culinary Experience

While some of us relaxed, others joined an Ecuadorian cooking class, learning to make empanadas and hot sauce with the hacienda’s chef—a fun, hands-on activity for all ages.

Why We Recommend Hacienda Porvenir

- Perfect for families: An active, nature-filled day close to Quito.

- Authentic Andean charm: Experience a working hacienda and its traditions.

- Stay overnight: Extend your adventure and make the most of this magical destination.

Whether you’re looking for adventure, relaxation, or a bit of both, Hacienda Porvenir offers something for everyone. We can’t wait to go back—next time, we’ll definitely stay the night!
